This is where you get to know your coach, and you begin to see the process is manageable!
- Review responses to The College Coaches’ pre-meeting questionnaires for the student and parent
- Discuss current classes and academic rigor
- Explore broad requirements for choosing a college
- Definitions and advantages/disadvantages of various application types
- Advise if and when to take standardized tests
- Discuss class selection
- Explain importance of extracurricular activities
- Discuss timing and impact of recommendations
- Strategy for summer activities

Scheduling
Establish Milestones
This meeting will set a baseline schedule for completing the process.
- Provide timeline for college application process
- Agree to contract and commitments
- Schedule meetings and discuss process to reschedule

College List Development & Review
Exploratory College List (Head Coach Completes)
- Leverages 15-45 years of experience from a counselor who has seen 200-400 schools
- The list will be balanced and is customized to the student’s needs and preferences
- Typically includes 15-25 schools to explore and refine over time
- Additional detail provided from school webinars/campus tours and knowledge
- List has input from entire team
Huddle Up (Meeting)
- Explain likely/target/reach and total number of applications recommended
- Discuss strategies for visiting colleges
- Provide tools to track visits

Application Strategy
Game Plan
A crucial meeting to build a strategy to get into the schools identified!
- Advice on how student will be read
- Review parent brag sheet and offer examples
- Discuss historical acceptance rates, test ranges
- Provide overview of merit and financial aid
- Offer strategies for EA/REA/ED/RD/Rolling
- Explain supplemental essays
- Strategize on optimizing college fairs and rep visits
- Review recommended resources (books and online)

Common App Activities & Completion (2 Mtgs)
Common Application Activities and Completion
This includes two meetings with the student (only) to complete the common application (excludes essay coaching and review)
- Ensure activity list is strategically arranged, with action verbs and impactful descriptions
- Review entire application to check for completion and any errors
- Send follow-up email to parents and students with action items
- Players: Student only
Final Review
1st and Goal
As we approach application deadlines, confirm schools and identify final strategies for admission
- Review remaining actions
- Discuss the schedule and strategy for supplemental essays, if applicable.
- Ensure balanced list and collaboration on where/when to apply
- Update and revise college list as needed

Final review of everything remaining to ensure a “win”! Adjust strategy as needed based upon Initial Results.
